The Peterborough Thunder Volleyball Club will be offering a House League Volleyball Program for the 2010/11 Ontario Volleyball Association Season. The Program will be based on sound Ontario Volleyball Long Term Athlete Development Principles.
The House League will take place at St. Peter’s Secondary School and Holy Cross Secondary School. Most clubs focus only on competitive volleyball, but Peterborough Thunder’s ultimate goal is to instill a love of the sport in as many of our youth as possible, and through that, build and maintain a competitive and successful club.
To this end a House League was started in 2006 and the House League is a key component of the ‘grass roots’ program. Girls and Boys between the ages of 11-16 are taught the skills of volleyball and exposed to game situations.
The program is based upon sound volleyball strategies and Long Term Athlete Development principles. Balanced teams with a variety of skills are assembled for House League play. Players learn individual skills and the importance of playing as a team and enjoying the sport for its own value.
Many of our House League players move on to play for our competitive teams. And some of our competitive players still play House League, for the fun and extra playing time.
The first session of the 2010/11 House League will begin the week of September 15th, 2010, and will continue until mid-December 2010 (except for Thanksgiving Weekend).
