HOUSE LEAGUE PHILOSOPHY

The Peterborough Thunder Volleyball Club will be offering a House League Volleyball Program for the 2011/12 Ontario Volleyball Association Season. The Program will be based on sound Ontario Volleyball Long Term Athlete Development Principles.

The House League will take place at St. Peter’s Secondary School and Holy Cross Secondary School. Most clubs focus only on competitive volleyball, but Peterborough Thunder’s ultimate goal is to instill a love of the sport in as many of our youth as possible, and through that, build and maintain a competitive and successful club.

To this end a House League was started in 2006 and the House League is a key component of the ‘grass roots’ program. Girls and Boys between the ages of 11-16 are taught the skills of volleyball and exposed to game situations. This year the club will offer house league programs for the following age groups:

  • U13 Girls (born in 1999 or after)
  • U14 Girls (born in 1998 or after)
  • U15 Girls (born in 1997 or after)
  • U16 Girls (born in 1996 or after)
  • U18 Girls (born in 1994/95)
  • U15 Boys (born in 1997 or after)

The program is based upon sound volleyball strategies and Long Term Athlete Development principles. Balanced teams with a variety of skills are assembled for House League play. Players learn individual skills and the importance of playing as a team and enjoying the sport for its own value.

Many of our House League players move on to play for our competitive teams. And some of our competitive players still play House League, for fun and extra playing time.

The first session of the 2011/12 House League will begin on September 14th, 2011, and will continue until December 17th, 2011.
